Description
Zinfandel Old True Zin, Ca’Vittoria
Zinfandel Old True Zin, Ca’Vittoria is fruity, with notes of plums, cherry marmalade, tobacco and spice. There is then a delicious aftertaste of cocoa, coffee and vanilla.
The Zinfandel IGT Puglia True Zin is, as its name may suggest, 100% Zinfandel. Perhaps better known for producing some questionable styles in the United States, Zinfandel can actually trace its routes back to Italy, where it is known under a slightly different strain as Primitivo. The maturing process takes place in stainless steel, wooden vats and then bottle before being unleashed upon its adoring public. This gives a real banker wine that is superb value for money.
The Rosso IGT Puglia Vino Appassimento Gold Release from Ca’Vittoria is a 60% Negroamaro, 25% Merlot, 15% Primitivo blend of grapes from Puglia. The vineyards are based in Salento where the grapes can achieve early and full ripeness with picking occurring as late as October. This gives a high level of sugar and high alcohol, required for the appassimento method. Ripe grapes mature on the vine for about 15 days, during which period 50% of their weight and moisture is lost. After a rigorous hand harvest, the grapes are pressed and the fermentation starts; the skins are left in the must for a long period to extract flavours and the characteristic ruby red colour. The wine is then left in oak for around 3-4 months. The resulting wine is concentrated and moreish.
