Quinto Arrio Crianza Rioja
Quinto Arrio Crianza Rioja from Navarrsotillo relies less on oak than many Navarran wines; the Crianza has a deep inky quality which is sublime. The Crianza is lightly oaked; it is refreshing in its lightness; but still pleasing to those who like their Riojas a little bigger boned! The Magister Bibendi wines are Navarrsotillo’s showcase wines.
This Crianza (vintage) wine is the result of painstaking labour. Grapes are selected from the oldest vines, they are blended before ageing for 12 months in American and French oak barrels. The wine is then also aged in the bottle, at a constant temperature.
A lovely ruby red colour, very clean, with medium to high robe and russet highlights with an aroma of ripe red fruit, a background of cinnamon and spices. Good tannic structure in the mouth, persisting in the aftertaste with dark-roasted tones. Balanced and full of flavour.
Serve at 18º C, let it breathe.
Ageing: Recommended to drink up to 7 years after harvesting.
Navarrsotillo is a quality wine producer that began in 1995 when they started converting the family vineyards, fields and orchards to organic farming standards. Their first wine was released two years later. Since then the grower has focused all efforts on organic, quality wines and a commitment to caring for the earth.
The vineyards are divided between several municipalities, Calahorra, Andosilla and San Adrian. This is an area called the “Rioja Mediterranean” with cold winters, mild and rainy springs and autumns, and hot dry summers. The grounds have different textures with limestone, sand, clay and gravel. This all gives the right combination of climate and “terroir” featuring the location that favours elegant wines with soft tannins.
