Description

Swartland Shiraz Cinsault, Marras

Swartland Shiraz Cinsault, Marras is from South Africa’s rugged Swartland. It has aromas of ripe plum, rose petal and a hint of smoke. The palate is full of juicy fruit flavours with an appealing spicy note.

The small and mighty label ‘Marras’ is led by talented young winemaker, Martin Lamprecht. He was a one-time student at Cederberg under David Nieuwoudt’s wing and has previously also worked in the Rhône. Martin brings fresh ideas to his current home in the Swartland, a melting pot for hot new talent and South Africa’s leading region for liberal winemaking and experimentation.

In his own modest words, “All I really do is take the grapes by their hands and guide them to where they want to be.” Using grapes from the vast plain and the elevated terroir of Piekenierskloof, he makes some bright new examples of Chenin, Grenache, and a Shiraz Cinsault blend.
