Description

Pinot Noir Turitelles, Domaine D’Altugnac

Pinot Noir Turitelles, Domaine D’Altugnac is garnet-coloured and perfumed with fine spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. There are also notes of mocha and Montmorency cherry. The wine’s texture finds its balance in a generous flavour that is felt in a velvety tannin highlighting the finesse of the grape variety.

Childhood friends Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier each grew up in a family of winemakers and shared a bond from a young age. They became closer still, when they later married sisters Brigitte and Florence, also from a winemaking family. They now boast two properties, Domaine des Deux Roches near Mâcon and Altugnac in the Languedoc. Following the success of Domaine des Deux Roches, in 1997 they branched out from Mâcon and purchased land in the southwest of the Languedoc in Limoux. The Languedoc vineyard sits at 500 metres above sea level so moderating the Mediterranean climate. The shallow, limestone-based soils are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The Altugnac estate spans 100 hectares including the vineyards, woods and farmland. The vines have an average age of 30 years with some nearly 50 years old. Yields are low, sometimes half that required by the designation but they prefer to go for quality over quantity. Just as they did with Domaine des Deux Roches, the duo applied for and received their High Environmental Certification in 2017.
