Description
Fond Croze Cuvee Shyrus
Fond Croze Cuvee Shyrus is deep garnet in colour with lovely violet hues. The nose is aromatic and complex with notes of black fruit compote, prune, blackberry and candied cherry. Good acidity on the palate with structured tannins and flavour characteristics of dark berry fruit followed by warming spice. The finish has good length and complexity.
Daniel, Bruno and Bruno’s nephew Guillaume Long run this 70-hectare estate in the foothills north of the distinctive Dentelles de Montmirail. The average vine age here is 35 years and the domaine was certified organic in 2009. The altitude of the vineyards and the shade provided by surrounding mountains, together with meticulous work to balance the ecosystem of the vineyard, means the grapes maintain a fresh, vibrant acidity despite the heat. In the cellar, great care is taken to produce balanced, elegant wines that reflect their terroir. The hillside slopes are made up of stony red soil which extend down to the pebble banks of the river Aygues.
Domaine Fond-Croze from the Vaucluse in France is a little-known gem offering great wines at great value.
