Paxton Jones Block
Paxton Jones Block is McLaren Vale Shiraz at its finest. The wine is a deep red with almost black intensity. The aroma is of intense fruit with blueberry and fruit cake characters and skillfully layered oak. Full bodied on the palate and full of flavour, with black olive tapenade and smoked short rib characters. A subtle yet sleek wine that packs a flavour punch.
This wine is from the acclaimed ‘Jones Block’ and well regarded for its generous, yet elegant style. Winemakers consider the Jones Block vineyard as one of the best red varietal vineyards in the region. Situated 6.6km from the Gulf of St Vincent and at 76-108m above sea level, the block has East and West facing slopes.
The grapes are produced bio-dynamically, hand pruned and then kept on skins for 15 days. The ferment was pumped over and plunged twice a day to extract colour, flavour and tannin structure. The wine is then aged in fine grained French and American oak for up to 24 months prior to blending and bottling. This wine was cellared for a further 12 months prior to release.
Ageing: drink now or for greater reward in 10-30 years time.
