Claude Carre Champagne, Champagne Brut, 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs.
Claude Carre Champagne: 100% his own effort and 100% his own vines. This Champagne is soft, seductive, slightly biscuity nectar bursting with life, with a mellow but crisp finish. A pale straw coloured; the good white creamy mousse holds well with fine bubbles showing excellent persistence. The palate is rich, the biscuity flavours good; there is almost a creamy texture with a crisp dry finish.
Having tramped through many and anonymous cellars in the Champagne region and seen the mountains of “profile brewed” bottles of well-known Grande Marques, one realises the joy it is to work with Claude. His wine epitomises what we consider to be real Champagne. He owns all his own Chardonnay vines, which are in the heart of some of the area’s most prestigious vineyards around Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims.
This lovely Champagne is simple and refreshing – this description fits Claude himself, his operation and his 1er Cru Champagne. We would also add that although his wine is not certified organic, this is only a reflection of his dislike of bureaucracy!
Grower: Claude Carre.
